Are you ready to enter the Dragon’s Den? Or at least are you ready to enter the conservative movement’s version of the Dragon’s Den? What the heck am I talking about? Well, the Manning Centre is organizing a unique contest to uncover the next big idea to promote conservatism in Canada. Essentially the Centre is asking conservatives to submit innovative plans in writing to strengthen the conservative movement in one of the following areas: communications, networking, intellectual capital, investment and training. The top five contestants will then make the case for their plan in a Dragon’s Den-style appearance before a panel of judges. Pretty cool eh? Learn more about this here.

The Canadian Constitution Foundation helped win a major victory for free speech recently in a Calgary court room. The victory came after the CCF intervened in the case of Reverend Stephen Boissoin who was legally battling the Human Rights Commission which had ordered him to pay a university professor $5,000 because he expressed opposition to homosexuality in a letter to the editor. Alberta’s human rights’ legislation bans any speech that “is likely to expose a person or a class of persons to hatred or contempt” because of race, religious beliefs, colour, and other grounds. The CCF argued this legislation infringes on free expression. The good news is the court dismissed the order that Boissoin pay a fine; the bad news is he left the law on the book.
